    Verdict

SPINNING gets the nod in an open handicap. David Barron's gelding has plenty of experience but he put it to good use when a close second to Amethyst Dawn at Newcastle. He can race off the same mark of 80 today and is sure to run well with the ground to suit. Harriet's Girl looks high enough in the weights, so a bigger threat might be the front-runner West End Lad if allowed his own way in-front. Dabbers Ridge is good coming off a strong gallop but might prefer better ground, the unexposed Pivotal filly Naddwah is fascinating back from a break with the ground likely to suit, whilst Lord Aeryn is holding his form well and is not discounted despite a mark of 78. Ken's Girl, Ours and South Cape, a course and distance winner, are all to be feared on ground that isn't an issue for any.
