Verdict

A real headscratcher of a contest to round off the card and one where CALEDONIA LAIRD can gain due reward for his consistency. Jo Hughes' gelding probably raced a little too keenly for his own good at Bath last month, but he has struck up a fine rapport with Martin Dwyer and he seems the safest option in a race that lacks much in the way of quality. Roy Bowring trained last year's winner so Flying Applause and Master Of Song are noted in the betting despite showing little in the way of recent form. The evergreen Woolston Ferry is tried in first time blinkers whilst Ferryview Place is sure to have his supporters having won at Nottingham previously off a 4lb lower mark. Hostile Fire clearly isn't the easiest to train though he showed plenty of tenacity when scoring at Warwick and he could yet be able to post a belated follow-up.
