A tough handicap where a high draw can be beneficial to Borderscott, who does not have much to find to defy top weight in this company. The in-form Straffan and the unexposed Karashino are others to seriously consider, while Blades Boy could also figure for a place if he copes with the step up in trip. Karashino made a very pleasing start when she won well at Thirsk last month. And was far from disgraced on her handicap debut at Ripon almost three weeks ago. She is still open to acres of improvement and does not look to be harshly treated for this; in spite of her lack of experience. The betting market is unlikely to take any chances with her though and the value could lay elsewhere. Straffan swapped hands for ¿6,000 after winning a claimer at Redcar last month, but was affected by the experience if his first start for James Hetherton is anything to go by. He does pick up a 6lb penalty though and needs to be at the top of his game. Therefore, we turn to Borderscott, who really caught the eye when he was last seen out. The son of Compton Place won well at Hamilton despite being far from the finished article - he gave the impression that there is plenty more to come from him when he fills his frame. Another year will have done Borderscott the power of good and, with his yard back amongst the winners of late, another bold bid expected from him today.
