In depth
Verdict
Pagano gets the vote over Noble Minstrel and Height Of Fury, with Cripsey Brook not entirely out of it. Pagano was sent off as favourite on his first start for Alan King at Warwick last month, having joined him for 40,000gns from Walter Swinburn. A dual winner on the all-weather, he tries today's trip for the first time, but should have no trouble staying, and can take this before eventually embarking on a career over hurdles. Noble Minstrel in contrast needed all of two miles to double up at Kempton last time, and although still not badly handicapped, will need a strong pace over this shorter trip. Height Of Fury bolted up in a soft-ground Catterick maiden last autumn and is difficult to weigh up, but knowing John Dunlop's record with these sort of stayers, should be followed as time goes on. Cripsey Brook might struggle off topweight but has won round here in the past, so is best of the rest, but for the winner we return to Pagano.
