The champion jockey, Tony McCoy, teaming up with the Evan Williams-trained BEYOND is the ideal partnership to get the Newton Abbot meeting off to a flying start. A versatile individual under both codes of racing, McCoy's mount is a very useful recruit for this time of year and should be followed whilst equally progressive opposition is so thin on the ground. Gulf Punch has won a couple of similar races, so is capable of posing a threat if the penalties anchor the selection in any way. Charmeur lost a shoe on his hurdling debut, so it would be harsh to judge Phillip Hobbs' French import on that (Bangor) performance. He is also shortlisted as an alternative for consideration if the likely cramped odds about Beyond take the shine off his obvious claims in an ordinary race.
