In depth

Verdict

Just the five runners have been declared for this contest but every one of the quintet has claims, most notably Sasso and Consigliere, but the vote goes to Manhattan Boy. The selection is a confirmed soft ground performer and the Philip Hobbs-trained gelding looks worth another chance under these testing conditions having disappointed on better ground at Perth last month. Symbiosis was good value for her win in a novice chase at Market Rasen in March but has yet to confirm that she handles ground as testing as this so looks best watched. Similar comments apply to Michael Scudamore's Albarino and of more interest may be Sasso. Jonjo O'Neill has his string in good form right now and the six-year-old has to be respected on a surface that he handles. David Pipe's Consigliere is less exposed than most of these and has to be considered but preference is for the confirmed soft ground performer Manhattan Boy.
