Verdict

David Pipe's newcomer DEGENERATE is the first foal of a dam who is a half-sister to several winners on the Flat and over hurdles. He will almost certainly know his job and is narrowly preferred to Black Thunder, who has the benefit of experience but looked far from straightforward when fourth at Chepstow in March. Mercury Bay returns from a break and must carry a penalty for his win at Stratford but winning pointer I'm In Charge could be interesting and Oak Apple will be all the better for her run at Cheltenham last month.
