Delaware is coming back to form and should go close at the expense of Herne Bay, Spirit Of Tenby, Mollycarrsbreakfast and Red Canyon. Delaware looked one to follow when trained by Martin Pipe a few years ago, winning both over hurdles and fences. In fact he was still with the Nicolashayne outfit until late last year but had not won for two and a half years when switching to Stuart Howe. The change of environment obviously worked as he ran a blinder on his debut for his new yard when chasing home his former stablemate Commercial Flyer from out of the handicap here in March. Runner-up off his correct mark here more recently, he should at least be concerned in the finish and gets a tentative vote. Herne Bay was a winning stayer on the Flat and was given an enterprising ride by Christian Williams when opening his account over timber at Stratford in March. That was a weak affair but the step up in trip will suit, and he is another for the short-list. Spirit Of Tenby returned from a 912-day break to cause a shock at Fontwell last time and it would not be a surprise if he improved enough to figure either, while Mollycarrsbreakfast and Red Canyon have both shown enough to warrant a mention for place-purposes at least. For the winner though we take a chance with Delaware.
