Verdict

James Fanshawe can strike while the iron is hot with Fleet Of Light, but there are a number of others to consider. Turning to the others, German import Lillebror, trained by Barney Curley, has shown little in three British starts. The Glen comes here in good heart following a cosy Chester win and clearly warrants respect. Duncan Dock looked useful in winning twice on the all-weather but was well beaten on his only turf run, at Chester in May. Well beaten in the John Smith's Cup last time, Barking Mad had earlier won at Windsor, but is now five pounds higher, which leads us to prefer others. Despite being consistent. Siena Star has not won on turf for a year, and is still three pounds higher than for that success. That said, he has place claims. Montmartre beat him five-and-a-half lengths when winning at Epsom last time under a very good front-running ride from Eddie Ahern. Siena Star is now four pounds better off and it should be closer between the pair, especially if this race is run at a truer pace. Intercession finished just over two lengths behind the selection in a course maiden on 28 June and is now eight pounds better off (disregarding rider's claim at Newmarket) so, theoretically, should have a chance. She is also fitted with first-time blinkers and has run only once since, when disappointing at Ascot. She is lightly raced, though, so adds some interest to the contest. Brilliant Red finished three lengths behind the selection at Sandown on Thursday following a slow start and is now three pounds better off so, theoretically, it should be close. However, we are prepared to take the chance that Fleet Of Light, who left a good impression on Thursday, has taken that race well and she can score again.
