A wide open contest where TIMELY JAZZ is taken to make it third time lucky, while stablemate Pleasant Day is among a whole host of interesting newcomers and both Rasselas and Simenon have claims. The selection just gets the vote on account of being battle hardened after a couple of runs, including when second over course and distance last time out, finishing around six lengths ahead of Rasselas in the process. The latter can clearly improve a fair bit for that run, but the Brian Meehan-trained selection is also going the right way and his greater experience is preferred. Simenon got the hang of things too late on debut but finished strongly and looks a nailed-on improver, so watch the market for stable confidence. Now on to those debutants and Pleasant Day strikes us as being one to note in the preliminaries. Not as expensive as some here, he is related to plenty of juvenile winners over this sort of trip and this looks an ideal starting point. Godolphin have their runners red hot and Navy List has to enter calculations, with the juveniles going great guns. This Nayef colt rocketed in price and although his pedigree is not outstanding we can assume that he must have shown a fair bit of spark. Lost Cause is related to a 6f juvenile debut scorer but failed to impress in the sales ring and is probably one to watch today, while Harlestone Times hails from a yard whose two-year-olds can win first time, although bloodlines suggest next year will be more fruitful. Stablemate Waseet looks more interesting and starts over an ideal trip, while the expensive Super Collider is bred to do better in his classic year. Plenty to learn from this race then and Timely Jazz can call the tune.
