In depth

Verdict

A decent little handicap that should be fought out by Dunelight, Papal Bull, Permanent Way and Royal Reservation and we take the latter to come up trumps. Peter Chapple-Hyam has had at least one winner at the meeting by the time this is in the public domain and Royal Reservation handled this trip well when landing a three-year-old handicap at Lingfield in February. Saved since then for a turf campaign, the tactic can pay dividends here on ground that should suit. Dunelight looks the biggest danger judged on his neck defeat of Kyoto Summit at Newmarket in September. That was decent form to bring to the table here he should be able to cope with the step up in trip now. We will have a clue as to Papal Bull's chance from the running of Cousteau earlier on the card. Sir Michael Stoute's charge beat that rival two lengths at Leicester in October and is another who should come on for this 10 furlong trip, so he too can get involved. Of the others, Permanent Way drops back to this trip having won easily over a mile and a half at Lingfield last time out in maiden company. Although he didn't beat much there he could not have been more impressive and holds a Derby entry for Brian Meehan. He looks a very interesting contender, but we will sidestep him on this occasion in favour of Royal Reservation.
