A great day's racing at Newmarket is rounded off with an absolutely fascinating two-year-old race where all six runners have previous racecourse experience. The Lord won the Brockelsby at Doncaster, a race which as usual has proved to possess strong form. The son of Averti actually won that race by five lengths showing excellent speed and although that was on soft ground if he can act on this faster surface he is the one to beat. Bravo Ragasso is well thought of at home and despite running green was a winner on his debut at Kempton. He will need to learn from that experience on that evidence and did only beat Mr Pop Idol by a half length, who had previously finished 12 lengths behind The Lord at Doncaster. Monsieur Boulanger was well held in sixth in the Kempton race but showed improved form to beat another Mick Channon juvenile, Mardoof next time. He represents Richard Hannon whose two-year-olds mostly improve for a run and after the resilience he showed in that victory it is not certain Bravo Ragasso can confirm that form. Mazepa is a big danger after his debut success at Nottingham where he just held off a highly-rated James Given representative. The pair pulled nine lengths clear of the third home there so they could easily be very smart types. Naughty Girl should improve on her first run at Leicester where she finished third to the more experienced El Coto. The filly just edged right in the closing stages and should be better for the run. Semenovskii was well beaten in the Brockelsby and although Alan Berry's string were out of form at the time will have to improve significantly to win.
