Verdict

A tricky start to a fine card with a handful of last-time winners including Roachdale House, who returned to form at Chester though all three victories have come with some give in the ground. Token Of Love is up 6lb for landing a class 4 handicap here last month but is progressing nicely as is Lesha, who has won twice at that level this season. You're Fired stayed on powerfully to land a 7f Haydock handicap and should do even better over this trip but Doctor Sardonicus makes his handicap debut in a very tough event. Safety Check has returned from Dubai where he competed at a very high level and all three of his career victories have come on this track. Crystal Lake's bid for a four-timer came to an end here in May and the assessor could have got to him so the vote goes to MUTAWATHEA. Richard Hannon's colt landed a Polytrack maiden on his reappearance and had a three-month break before returning with an eye-catching run at Sandown where he stayed on strongly over that stiff 7f to snatch second place.
