In depth

Verdict

AL MUTATHAR was unfancied in the betting on the Rowley course here for last month’s debut but returned a cosy winner over today’s trip. It could pay to stick with the Hannon colt despite a penalty. Five of these represent Godolphin with the returning Declaring Love preferred to Vottoria Light, Stunning Beauty, Nature Lover and the John Gosden four-year-old Wirraway, who makes a belated debut. Clinician also returns to action having shown promise at Chelmsford in November while Russian Virtue went close at Newbury last month and is another to consider. Helvezia was placed at Chepstow on her debut while Piranesi and stablemate Polar Appeal are newcomers to note for the Haggas yard.
