A tricky looking finale with a number of possibles and the vagaries of the draw to consider but Patavellian appears to be ahead of the handicapper at present and is the TEAMtalk choice. The Roger Charlton-trained gelding has stepped up on previous efforts for the fitting of a blinkers to land his last two starts both over 7f at Chepstow in the manner of a most progressive performer. The son of Machiavellian has plenty of pace so shouldn't be inconvenienced by the drop down to six furlongs and has the services of a useful 5lb-claiming apprentice. There are plenty of dangers including the lightly raced Eyecatcher who is entitled to progress further while Swynford Welcome failed to last home over a mile last time but has claims on his Pontefract success (now 5lb higher) over this trip previously. David Nicholls is always a man to fear in valuable sprints and Pax looks the best of his trio having been dropped 1lb since a creditable fifth of 27 (Dorchester behind and held) in the Ayr Silver Cup while Baby Barry and Sunley Scent are both capable of going close on these terms.
