In depth

Verdict

Back end Newmarket maidens are always a good source of future winners and this contest should be no exception with a number of potentially smart performers on view. Popular Epsom handler Terry Mills has enjoyed an unforgettable season and looks to have another bright prospect in the shape of A Very Good Year. The Indian Ridge colt attracted plenty of support to make a winning debut at Leicester last month but showed his inexperience before finishing a creditable sixth of 13 behind a useful yardstick. Sure to have benefited significantly from the outing, he is given the TEAMtalk nod in a race packed full of unknown quantities. John Gosden is a man to fear in this type of event and the Manton handler saddles newcomer Neoclassic as well as once-raced pair Blazing Thunder and Mujarad. The last-named looks the pick of the trio after a fair debut effort at Leicester last month while the well-bred debutant Private Charter is one to note in the market. Super Song showed little on his initial start but shouldn't be dismissed lightly while stablemate Highland Games catches the eye on breeding and is another for the short list. Indian Trail appears to be progressing along the right lines and could prove best of the remainder.
