O Crotaigh arrives on the back of a win at Market Rasen, but is facing a much tougher task upped in class off an 8lb higher mark. Storm Surge scored over a shorter trip at Kelso recently and has a bit to prove over today's distance, while Border Reiver looks in need of some respite from the handicapper. Hexham hurdles winner Andreo Bambaleo is interesting on his chasing debut though Et Maintenant finished runner-up in the last renewal of this in 2009 only for PAMAK D'AIRY to get the better of him. The latter is 4lb lower today and, with a recent pipe-opener at this track under his belt and conditions to suit, Henry Hogarth's charge is fancied to land this once again.
