A modest contest in which few can boast solid recent form but Impertio is a notable exception and is taken to defy top weight. Peter Beaumont's charge revels in the mud and showed that he is ready to strike following an eye catching performance over course and distance late last month. The son of Primitive Rising made smooth headway to challenge early in the straight but was unable to sustain the effort in the closing stages and had to settle for minor honours. This looks less competitive and the nine-year-old is able to race off a 2lb lower mark so should prove too strong for his rivals with conditions to suit. June's River represents a stable with an enviable record on this track but the 10-year-old disappointed last time and is far from certain to stay the trip in the prevailing conditions. Clear Dawn comes here in respectable form but would prefer better ground while the lightly raced Carnacrack has not been seen since taking a heavy fall three months ago and may need the outing.
