In depth

Verdict

Midships can get the better of Unnefer and Ghetto in the opener on a cracking card. The selection created a big impression when making a winning bow over six furlongs here in June, lowering the colours of the much fancied Alwaabel in the process. On breeding he is going to be very useful over further next season, and he should take today's extra furlong in his stride. Unnefer will be popular with punters as well judged on his victory at Newmarket at the second time of asking, and he holds a Derby entry. The slight worry is that the going might be just too fast for him here unless the rain comes to take the sting out of the ground. Ghetto looks held by the selection on debut running here, but he has since opened his account at headquarters, again on ground softer than today's. Meeriss was outclassed in the Woodcote Stakes at Epsom, but will at least benefit from the extra distance here, but Midships really caught the eye on his debut, and it could be full steam ahead from now on for Amanda Perrett's charge.
