Verdict

Pateese, a winner on the Flat in France, will be better for his debut over timber at Exeter where he faded from the last after being there with a chance. Richard Johnson prefers him to dual bumper winner Kartanian, who makes his debut over timber. According started favourite on his hurdling bow at Sandown in February but was beaten a long way and also at Kempton last month where he ran much better behind Iolith. He should improve again but Barry Geraghty has opted for Minella Class, who had some decent bumper form but has always looked as though he would do better when sent jumping. RED MERLIN will be having his first start over hurdles but is in the right hands to make his mark. A useful 96-rated performer on the Flat he looks just the type to do well at the winter game and will be fit enough after a couple of runs in October which included a victory at Warwick.
