Verdict

The experience of her narrow defeat at Ripon will not have been lost on PEPPER LANE who is preferred to Exgray and Capercaillie. David Barron's filly sets a good standard as her debut at Ripon was full of promise. Along with the winner and another runner, the first three horses were five lengths clear on the fourth and the form probably stacks up quite well. Improvement is expected from Makbullet and Whelkeen Rock, especially the former as he shaped with promise on his debut at Haydock on testing ground. Exgray, a 42,000 filly who is related to winners, must be watched for market support on debut, as should Capercaillie. Costing $375,000, this Elusive Quality filly will come with a big reputation and connections may have found a good opportunity for her on debut. The market will provide some further clues but it is Pepper Lane who can get off the mark.
