Verdict
GLENCREE is taken to put behind the disappointment of his racecourse debut at Wetherby; Broadway Star, whose second at Newcastle last month was badly let down when winner Waterloo Star was beaten out of sight at Wetherby on Wednesday is the danger, while hurdling debutant Danzatrice and Le Vert Galent are others that merit consideration. Hugely impressive when landing his sole Irish point-to-point start and sold for 230,000 guineas at the Brightwell Sales in April, his Wetherby effort was so disappointing that it could not have been his true running. By Presenting, ground conditions may not have been the problem last time and providing valid excuses were offered, Glencree can land this while stepping up to 2m 4f should suit. Broadway Star landed his bumper at this venue last season and finished second when returning to the track last time. As mentioned the form was let down this week but Broadway Star shaped as though an additional half mile would suit having looked short of a turn of foot. Danzatrice was rated in the 60s on the level. Quicker ground will suit and while this trip is the unknown, the general consensus with flat stayers is that they require a staying trip when reverted to hurdling. Le Vert Galent was placed in two of his three bumpers but was well beaten when returning to action at Kelso last time. Irish raider Eagles Mist stayed on from behind to finish mid-division in a Punchestown maiden hurdle. In the context of this race that form might not be too bad although ground conditions are much different today. Glencree departed the Irish point-to-point scene with a lofty reputation and while he has something to prove now following his flop last time, he can make amends here.
