New Dancer was good value for his debut success here two years ago but Kevin Ryan's gelding has not been seen since then and, with the testing ground being of concern, the son of Zafonic looks best left alone with a chance taken on the newcomer Spellchecker who gets the vote over Wipe Your Eye. The last mentioned likes soft ground but Brendan Powell's gelding has a penalty to carry for his Newcastle debut success over a year ago and, like New Dancer, the five-year-old may struggle to give weight away to the other runners. John Wade's Poseidon has improved since his debut outing but needs to improve again to trouble the judge, while Don McCain's Morning Sunshine was well held on his debut outing and is probably best watched at present. The vote then goes to Spellchecker, who is bred to be useful and Howard Johnson's son of Alderbrook is taken to open his account at the first time of asking.
