Fire Up The Band is not as good as he once was but Alan Berry's gelding has plenty in hand on official ratings, has no problems with the underfoot conditions and is hard to oppose, getting the vote ahead of Blackheath and Whinhill House. The last mentioned ran better at Catterick last time when David Barker's gelding ran a close up third behind stable companion Brut. The 2004 Ayr Gold Cup winner Funfair Wane has gone gradually downhill since that success and, while still a capable performer, he would need to improve on recent form to trouble the judge. Best Lead ran better last time but has a lot to do to get involved here and of more interest may be Blackheath, who has shown improved form of late. Fire Up The Band has solid claims at the weights though and he is hard to oppose.
