In depth

Verdict

This looks the most competitive race on today’s cards with the weights headed by Christopher Wood, who has been highly tried since finishing third in a Grade 1 at Aintree last season. However, he underwent wind surgery twice in six months last year and may need this. Skiddaw Valleys and Lucky Flight have even longer absences to overcome but both won when last seen. Goldencard gets a visor after disappointing here last month but is probably in the handicapper’s grip for now. DEAR SIRE’s jumping often leaves a bit to be desired but he can be tough to pass if getting his act together and is now 3lb lower than when successful over track and trip two years ago. For Three had a pipe-opener on the all-weather last month but reserves his best for Hexham.
