Oscar Ceremony blotted his copybook when pulled up at Huntingdon in December but may have been refreshed by a break. Achill Road Boy was second over track and trip at the start of the month having been out of sorts in the first half of the campaign. King Golan finished Shanroe Street and The Trigger at Ayr last time but that was over a shorter trip and all were well beaten. Pinch Of Ginger had been in good form over fences prior to a run over hurdles at Newcastle, however, and goes on the shortlist. But the vote goes to DR HOOVES, who rallied well to land a novices’ handicap here recently and could have that win boosted by Im Too Generous earlier in the day.
Dr Hooves (IRE) 14-1 (11-0) Held up, headway 13th, went 2nd after 14th, leader clear 4 out, closed from 3 out, led and mistake next, hung right towards finish, all out, won at Musselburgh 3m hcp (4) sft in Feb beating Im Too Generous (11-4) by 1/2l, 6 ran.
Craiganboy (IRE) 8-1 (11-6) Refused to race, at Ayr 2m 5f hcp (4) hvy in Jan.
Pinch Of Ginger (IRE) 4-1 (11-11) Pressed leader, 3rd and beaten from 3 out, weakened last, 6th of 9, 30l behind Seapoint (10-13) at Newcastle 2m 6f hcp (5) sft in Jan.
The Trigger (IRE) 50-1 (11-11) Always behind, tailed off 10th, 8th of 9, dist behind Strong Economy (11-2) at Ayr 2m 5f hcp (4) hvy in Jan.
Achill Road Boy (IRE) 16-1 (11-0) Chased leaders on outside, last and behind 5th, not fluent 8th, left 3rd 15th, went 2nd after next, no impression on winner, 2nd of 5, 5l behind Gangster (12-0) at Musselburgh 3m 3f hcp (4) sft in Feb.
