Compton Emperor met a useful yardstick when runner-up on his debut over 5f at Leicester recently and looks the one to be on with the experience behind him. Gerard Butler's colt was uneasy in the market at the Midlands venue but shaped with an abundance of promise to pull well clear of the remainder and should be suited by the step up to this trip. Wozzeck also made a pleasing introduction when second at Bath over a mile so is a guaranteed stayer who should be on the premises while El Chaparral and Lucky Leo have both shown enough to suggest they can make an impact at this level. Mark Johnston is a man to fear here and the Middleham handler is represented by My Daisychain but this filly was flattered when second (of three) in an Ascot conditions event and had her limitations exposed when out of her depth in the Group 3 Horris Hill Stakes last time.
