A dour staying contest here where Bafana Boy looks the pick and is taken to see off the challenges of Ice Tea, Mr Twins and Edgehill. The Nicky Richards-trained selection has gone up a stone due to a 10 length defeat of Tickateal when favourite over course and distance last time but the manner of that victory suggested that there is a fair bit more to come from him. He sets a good standard in the context of this race and is a confident selection. Ice Tea is blinkered for the first time and that can elicit some improvement from the top weight. Donald McCain does well with the runners he sends up here so the seven-year-old is respected especially now he is back on good ground for the first time since a winning debut. Mr Twins and Commercial Express both seem to prefer to keep their lights hidden under a bushel, while Edgehill was thrashed here last time by the selection and looks again resigned to running for place money. But Bafana Boy was impressive that day and is taken to follow up.
