In depth

Verdict

A disappointing turnout here but still a decent contest in its own right and the pick of the quartet looks to be Degas Art, who can prevail from Purple Moon and Storm Prospect. The selection sets the standard after successive wins at Wetherby - when he became the only horse to defeat Katchit this season - and Aintree, and provided nothing is amiss he should be good enough to record a comfortable success. He handles all types of ground and it would be a surprise if he were beaten. Purple Moon was a 97-rated flat performer and was an expensive purchase to send hurdling, but he began to repay a little of that with a course and distance success on debut. He ballooned a few hurdles that day and won't be able to repeat that and win here. However, he will prefer this ground and with that experience in the bag he should again go well. Storm Prospect was rated just 60 on the level but has enjoyed a heavy ground success over the sticks and will undoubtedly win more races in the future, though it will be a surprise if he is good enough here and we take Degas Art to show he is a very smart juvenile.
