Rookie trainer Salem bin Ghadayer had his first big-race success here last week when Frankyfourfingers landed a Group 2 and ASLAN can continue the stable's surge. A promising performer in the USA, he made all for an impressive victory in an admittedly weak maiden on New Year's Eve and starts out in handicaps on a fair mark. Doug Watson has his horses in outstanding form and Layl added to his tally a month ago when easily beating the consistent Street Act. He's up 7lb but obviously loves the surface and will be difficult to beat. The stable also run Jeeraan, who wasn't far behind in that race, his first since March, and Ostaad, who caused an upset when landing a non-carnival handicap a couple of weeks ago. Lanark was staying on strongly over a mile a fortnight ago so the longer trip should be in his favour. The former Godolphin colt Cry Joy landed a maiden in good style on his debut here in December and has done very well in two subsequent handicaps though he may do even better over a longer trip.
