In depth

Verdict

Malcolm Jefferson's MAC AEDA won well on his debut in a bumper here in May and again on a return visit to the venue in the same grade under a penalty last month and he looks the one to beat back at Market Rasen having made a pleasing debut over hurdles at Newcastle earlier this month, getting the vote over Kellystown Lad and Pair Of Kings. Alan Swinbank's gelding improved slightly from his debut outing when fifth at Catterick last time and he has to be respected with the yard amongst the winners. Chris Bealby's Pollen Jock is similarly lightly raced but needs to improve on all known form to trouble the judge and of more interest may be the Steve Gollings-trained Laureldean River, a point-to-point and bumper winner, who ran better over hurdles last time than he had on his first start over timber. Ferdy Murphy's Kellystown Lad was a triple winner between the flags and has already won over hurdles having been successful at Musselburgh in December but he has struggled under a penalty in two starts since then and may do so today in a race taken to go to Mac Aeda.
