Gold Reef looks the pick of Alan King's two runners over Ellen Tilley in this handicap hurdle restricted to mares only and has every chance having been running consistently well of late but a better bet looks to be GWYRE, who gets the vote. Tim Easterby's filly gained a well deserved first success following some decent placed efforts when landing a novices' hurdle at Sedgefield at the beginning of the month in good fashion from Below The Deck and she looks reasonably well treated for her in-form yard off a mark of 105 for her debut in a handicap. Malcolm Jefferson's Pokanoket has like the selection been running consistently well in novice hurdles and has to be considered racing off a mark of 114 for her first start in the grade. Keith Reveley has his string in good heart so Karingreason has to be considered but she was well beaten at Doncaster last time and looks best watched, while Alison Thorpe's Pearl won well at Huntingdon two starts ago but looked beaten before falling last time. Several of these have claims but Tim Easterby's Gwyre has shown steady improvement and can give his trainer another winner.
