Doncaster winner Lightening Rod only beat three home in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham last time and Mick Easterby's gelding is likely to find this a more suitable opportunity for him but it is never easy to win bumpers under a penalty and a better bet looks to be MR SYNTAX, who is taken to gain a deserved success and he gets the vote over Bunglasha Jake. Howard Johnson's gelding was a point-to-point winner in Ireland and was subsequently disappointing when only fifth of the nine runners on his rules debut in a Musselburgh bumper in February. There should be more to come from the son of Jolly Jake though and he has to be considered. Paul Webber's runners in this grade always warrant respect but his runner Vivarini has been well held in both starts so far and looks best watched. Don McCain's Black Apache was beaten a long way on testing ground at Newcastle on his debut and may do better on this surface, while Bilbo Boggart showed promise at Haydock and has to be considered. Preference though is for Mr Syntax who has done little wrong in any of his three starts and he gets the vote for what would be a deserved success.
