    Verdict

Mendo gets the nod over Westgate and Thai Vengo, while Murphys Million is also rated as a threat after winning over course and distance last month. The last named is a progressive type that has bags of scope for improvement. He has the makings a useful stayer and is worth keeping tabs on whatever happens this afternoon. Thia Vengo has shown ability in his starts so far and may simply have found a trip in excess of three miles beyond him when he ran out steam at Huntingdon just before Christmas. The gelding drops to a more appropriate distance this afternoon and represents good each-way value. Similar comments apply to the consistent Westgate, who has made the frame in each of his last three starts. However, he was a costly failure at Hereford a fortnight ago and now has a point to prove. Therefore, we switch to Mendo, who has faired well against stiffer opposition of late and, as Noel Chance seems to have his string firing just now, this fellow can give his yard a boost before their star performers hit the Festival trail next week.
