In a weak race it'd be no surprise were Lamb's Cross to go close to making a winning debut, but we'll side with BURY THE HATCHET; Lola Jay and Cheatingsideoftown are best of the rest. Alan Swinbank's recruit is related to a couple of reasonable types both over timber and on the level, and this £13,000 purchase showed enough promise on his debut here to suggest he can run a big race with that experience in the bag, in the process enhancing the yard's 20% strike-rate in these events here. Lamb's Cross is only modestly bred but comes into the reckoning as a Nigel Twiston-Davies representative. The Gold Cup winning trainer has a 33% strike-rate with bumper performers here over the last five years and operates at a level-stakes profit with all runners sent to the Lincolnshire venue. Cheatingsideoftown is interesting with AP booked, particularly as he started off life in a warm Doncaster event. It's hard to be too positive about his chance on the bare form but he's clearly held in some regard and the champion has a good record riding for Paul Webber. Lola Jay represents a yard always to be respected both in terms of the track and type of race but she's modestly bred and apprentice ridden, suggesting not much is expected, while Quilip and Alta Rock need to improve, so preference is for Bury The Hatchet.
