The Glen can defy topweight at the expense of The Hairy Lemon, Romantic Affair and Shady Anne. The Glen is on a retrieval mission after departing three out here last time when in with every chance, having earlier been successful over the course and distance. It is debatable whether he would have beaten Donald that day, but this does not look any stronger, and so he gets a tentative vote. The Hairy Lemon stayed on nicely over two miles at Newcastle, and as one of the younger brigade here, has scope to progress, so can give the selection a race. Romantic Affair has an absence to overcome and does not make as much appeal as Shady Anne who will improve over this distance. Purple Patch is down at the right end of the weights and has the assistance of Polly Gundry, while Touch of Ebony showed a glimmer of ability at Uttoxeter last time and is worth a mention. It is The Glen we return to though as the answer.
