EL HOMBRE arrives in the best form having returned a clear winner at Wolverhampton recently with Merhoob well beaten. Keith Dalgleish’s sprinter should make another bold bid despite a 6lb rise. Mokaatil never threatened when fourth over the minimum trip at Wolverhampton with a below-par Alsvinder behind and the latter has yet to race over further than 5f in 27 starts. Zac Brown ran well at Yarmouth when last seen in action but that was in August and Doc Sportello never figured in last year’s renewal.
Alsvinder 20-1 (8-10) Started very slowly and lost all chance, last of 10, 12 1/2l behind Doctor Sardonicus (9-5) at Wolverhampton 5f hcp (2) pol in Dec.
El Hombre 9-2 (9-0) Pressed leader, led inside final 2f, ridden over 1f out, quickened clear inside final furlong, ran on well, won at Wolverhampton 6f hcp (3) pol in Dec beating Desert Doctor (9-3) by 2l, 8 ran.
Mokaatil 25-1 (8-9) Held up towards rear, headway over 1f out, not trouble leaders, 4th of 10, 3l behind Doctor Sardonicus (9-5) at Wolverhampton 5f hcp (2) pol in Dec.
Merhoob (IRE) 11-1 (9-3) Dwelt, behind, driven over 2f out, headway under pressure 1f out, ridden and kept on inside final furlong, never nearer, 5th of 8, 2 1/2l behind El Hombre (9-0) at Wolverhampton 6f hcp (3) pol in Dec.
Zac Brown (IRE) 7-1 (9-3) Taken to post early, tracked winner, ridden and unable to quicken over 1f out, kept on one pace, 3rd of 5, 1 3/4l behind Laith Alareen (9-5) at Yarmouth 5f hcp (4) gf in Aug.
Doc Sportello (IRE) 11-2 (9-9) Steadied start, held up in touch on inside, headway chasing leaders over 2f out, ridden over 1f out, went 3rd final furlong, kept on, 3rd of 8, 1 1/2l behind Karijini (9-7) at Kempton 6f hcp (4) pol in Feb.
