In depth

Verdict

As you would imagine, this is a tight affair, with Taranaki getting a narrow vote over Ever Cheerful, Golden Dixie and, possibly, My Gacho. When looking through this race, a contest that took place here three days ago caught the eye. In it, Greenwood, who continues to threaten to win a race of this nature, was flying at the finish, although that was over a longer trip. Taranaki and Ever Cheerful were behind him on that occasion but it might be a different story over today's distance. To back that up, you can certainly give the selection a chance on his six-furlong form and being drawn eight of 12, whilst not ideal, might be ok for him. With Petardia's Magic having shown little of late and Franksalot looking vulnerable at this trip, then Golden Dixie, who got back to winning ways at Wolverhampton last time, might get amongst things, although he probably has to improve again to score. Another possibility is My Gacho, who showed good speed from a poor draw to win a Southwell maiden last time, and Mandarin Spirit is worthy of a mention, but we prefer others today, most notably, Taranaki, who is turned out again after attracting money three days ago, and he might prove the one to be on at this trip.
