Grandfather Tom beat Wiff Waff by only a neck at Yarmouth last month but can effectively race off a lower mark with an apprentice’s allowance taken into account. Bob Cowell’s charge can confirm running and is also preferred to stablemate Miracle Works, who sports first-time cheekpieces. Verne Castle has now had 13 starts on Turf without success but Jack Taylor is back on a winning mark and gets a change of headgear. MAID OF SPIRIT has been competing over 6f on the all-weather but made a winning debut over today’s minimum trip at Windsor last year. Clive Cox’ filly gets the vote on that form now handicapping for the first time.
