Verdict

Hellbender arrives in search of a hat-trick in this valuable 7f handicap but he is forced to race from 2lb out of the weights today so is passed over in favour of JOHNNY MUDBALL who can land this at the chief expense of Everymanforhimself. Tom Dascombe's colt easily disposed of his rivals when landing a maiden over course-and-distance last time and undeniably faces a stiffer task here off a mark of 89 for his handicap debut. However such was the ease of this son of Oasis Dream's victory that he could be a value bet against horses with proven handicap form in the book here. Richard Kingscote again takes the ride and we hope he can boss these into submission from the front. Everymanforhimself carries top weight under Jamie Spencer and was last seen taking second in a valuable turf handicap at York off a mark of 99. That effort over today's trip suggested the winners enclosure may not be too far away although the horse has in fact not won beyond 6f. It may well be that the horse wants a seventh furlong at the age of five but until he proves that to be the case he is just worth opposing. Hellbender won well over course and distance last time ahead of several hardened handicappers but he has more on his plate today racing from just out of the weights. His neck victory over Autumn Blades was a cosy one but today's opposition is definitely tougher, that said Sylvester Kirk's horse comes here at the top of his came and must be respected with Martin Dwyer up. Carcinetto is another worthy of mention having taken second behind a much higher rated rival over this trip at Kempton last time. David Evans has his horses in good nick and with son Richard taking off 5lb the horse may take a hand in the finish, whilst Fathsta remains well handicapped if David Simcock can coax him back to the form he showed when competing in some top handicaps last season. A cracking and tough to solve handicap that can go to the improving Johnny Mudball.
