tracked leader until 4f out, shaken up to lead 1f out, easy
led, ridden and headed briefly over 1f out, no further impression
held up, keen hold, tracked leader 4f out, led until hung right over 1f out, not recover
Only four are set to face the starter, and a case can be made for any of them, but our vote goes to SONNING GATE, although the remainder, Dukes Art, Sunniva Duke and Sign of Approval will all have their supporters. The selection won a decent maiden here last time out, confirming the promise shown on debut. He certainly looks the improving sort, and being the half-brother to an all-weather winner, breeding suggests there's no problem with the ground. He's got to defy top weight, but that was the case last time too. Dukes Art has only raced once before, and came third over a mile here. The step down in trip looks to be a positive, and improvement's expected from this 20 thousand Guineas purchase. Hopes are high too for Sunniva Duke, with a Newmarket entry in April. He broke his maiden tag at the third time of asking, but hasn't yet shown much in nursery company. This downgrade could help though. Sign of Approval steps down in trip after finding the extended mile at Wolverhampton too much last time out; that 3 in the form figures can mislead though as it was third out of three, after looking likely to give an odds on favourite a race. Plenty of positives all round, but we'll side with Sonning Gate.
