Liberate can gain some compensation for a couple of near misses and is selected in preference to Theatre and Dark Parade, who make the most appeal from the remainder. Dark Parade goes well here and is a much better horse on the artificial surfaces. He has paid the price for his consistency though and now faces a stiff test on the terms of this race. Theatre is a dour stayer that arguably should have won more races than his tally presently registers. However, he also has fourteen placed efforts to his name and has to be a leading candidate to make the frame once more. However, Liberate is easily the most appealing option for win only purposes, as he has been crying out for a crack at two miles. Sir Mark Prescott's charge gave the improving Bauer a real scare at York last week and, as he is open to further improvement over this extra distance, Liberate is fancied to prove himself the most capable under today's conditions.
