A French raider claimed this prize last year and AMADE looks to have strong claims of performing the same feat. He’s won all five outings since stepping up in trip including a couple of starts in this country with a victory at Kempton in January and more recently at Chelmsford when defeating the likes of Higher Power, Aircraft Carrier and Grey Britain by a wide-margin. He’s re-united with Christophe Soumillon today and looks the one to beat on that form. Lord George was beaten only a nose in last year’s renewal but hasn’t been at his best so far this year and last year’s third Watersmeet has found Aircraft Carrier and Grey Britain too good recently. But Spark Plug just failed to catch the front-running Stamford Raffles in a handicap at Kempton on his first attempt at 2m and re-opposing on better terms today, Brian Meehan’s charge looks likely to run a big race.
