Lion Hearted joined Mick Appleby in January and has subsequently been raised an accumulative 41lb having won seven out of eight starts for the Rutland-based trainer. But today’s rise in class may prove just beyond him and GALLIPOLI is preferred. Richard Fahey’s charge has suffered a couple of narrow-margin defeats in tougher handicaps than this recently and looks set to make another bold having been beaten less than a length in last year’s renewal. He finished in front of both Breathless Times and Exchequer when runner-up at Newcastle in February while Goring is also at home at this level but the draw has not been kind and he seems better over further nowadays. By contrast, Raucous has done all his winning over shorter trips so far and Sha La La La Lee makes more appeal over today’s distance. Recent Kempton winner Poetic Force arrives in good form but is another upped in class.
