In the 10-furlong maiden, Challis is selected ahead of Soldiers Quest and Fire One. Having achieved a rating in the high 70s for his performances to date, Challis sets a decent benchmark to today's form and, with the step up in trip likely to present no problems, he can go well. A half-brother to the high-class Lend A Hand, the Mark Johnston-trained Soldiers Quest gets a good mention on his debut, while Tory Brae and Winter Lane are others to monitor in the betting. Marbaa has shown course and distance maiden promise but his form is well below that of the selection, we would say, and French import Lemonette showed promise in her homeland and now debuts in Britain. She too should be watched in the betting. With his maidens generally running well, Marcus Tregoning's Fire One is also one to consider following a promising, if green, debut run. The same trainer also runs the interestingly bred Pheidias. Overall, though, the vote goes to Challis.
