No form to go on in the first juvenile race of the year and the market will provide the biggest clues. Paul Cole has his Whatcombe yard in good order and the stable is represented by an interesting newcomer in the shape of Western Roots. The son of Dr Fong makes plenty of appeal on breeding being a half-brother to a six furlong juvenile winner and is from the family of 1990 Arc de Triomphe hero Saumerez. Brian Rothwell is also capable of saddling first-time out winners at this early stage of the season and his Kukini is respected while Rod Millman's Three Welshmen is another speedily-bred type to consider.
