With doubts concerning the ground for Baraka and the general form of Gerard Butler's horses for Donna Vita, Bowstring is the logical choice in the Oaks Trial. The selection was well held by the impressive Bull Run at Epsom last time but had earlier run away with a Folkestone maiden and, being by Sadler's Wells, should have little difficulty in staying the trip on this ground. She is preferred to Aidan O'Brien's Baraka, who was disappointing on her only start as a juvenile but is likely to do better this term. However, a lot of Danehill's progeny prefer a faster surface so she is passed over on this occasion. Donna Vita is difficult to recommend given the form of Gerard Butler's horses at present so if more interest among the remainder may be Clive Brittain's Rio De Jumeirah, who steps up in trip today and may improve for it. Chara has little to recommend her in a race that is taken to go to Bowstring.
