        Verdict

        The word modest can be applied to many of these with Quintrell selected ahead of Barney McGrew. Anywhere near the level of form that saw Quintrell achieve maiden form to a level in the 70s in the summer would have to see her seriously competitive today. Barney McGrew cost 25,000 guineas and has plenty to like on breeding, while Welsh Cake has shown the odd bit of promise and, in a modest contest might bag some money. From there it is downhill to the town of modesty which, in turn, returns us to the selection, which is Quintrell.
