        In depth

        Verdict

        In the maiden, Surrey Spinner is selected ahead of Picky and Miss Saafend Plaza. Surrey Spinner showed plenty of promise when third here on his seasonal return over a mile last time and in a race that lacks strength in depth, catches our eye and, accordingly, gets the vote. Semi Detached has shown enough to suggest that he can maybe sneak a place, while Eddie Ahern teaming up with the Marcus Tregoning-trained Pheidias could be interesting, although he only showed a modicum of debut promise. Picky is another to have shown promise, and in each start to date also, while Zelos's best run to date came over course and distance and first-time blinkers could produce a bit of improvement. Finally, Miss Saafend Plaza has form enough to go well but she is becoming a little frustrating although a step up in trip will ensure she has her supporters once again. Overall, though, we will give the vote to Surrey Spinner.
