As respected as My Mentor and War Of The Roses are, the two that make most appeal for betting purposes are Apache Fort (selected) and Bassinet. The selection has an excellent record here and showed steadily progressive form throughout last year, rising around 20lbs in the weights. There's hope that he can make further progress this year and there was plenty to like about his performances in defeat since he won over course and distance in September. He hasn't shone in three recent runs over hurdles but should strip fit and well today and has sound claims. War Of The Roses has shown signs of being in the handicapper's grip but My Mentor improved for the step up to this trip last time and must be feared. Bassinet also appeals as a potential improver at this trip, she finished a never nearer third over ten furlongs here last time and has plenty of stamina in her pedigree. Her wide draw isn't a help though and we think that Apache Fort can repel all dangers.
